CUSTODIANS UNITED

YOUR VOICE. YOUR WORKPLACE. OUR NEXT STEPS.
Custodial members met with local union leadership to discuss challenges affecting daily work and access to representation. The discussion centered on staffing, Line H, CTC procedures, policing duties, overtime, equipment, job assignments, and communication. Members asked for clearer answers, better follow-through, and a dependable way to bring concerns forward.
WHAT MEMBERS RAISED
Representation & communication More consistent steward access, clearer grievance updates, and coverage across facilities and tours. | Staffing, Line H & CTC Questions about allocated hours, staffing packages, policing expectations, and changing work assignments. |
Overtime & job opportunities Concerns about overtime-desire lists, seniority records, vacancies, postings, and higher-level duties. | Tools & working conditions Equipment repairs, supply shortages, floor-cleaning access, grounds work, and safe work practices. |
A COMMITMENT TO FOLLOW-THROUGH
Leadership discussed recruiting and training more stewards, creating a grievance-intake support committee, improving member contact channels, and reviewing outstanding custodial issues with the appropriate union representatives. These are next-step commitments and proposals—not announcements that a committee has already been certified or that grievances have been resolved.

NEXT STEPS: WHAT HAPPENS NOW
IMMEDIATE | Protect deadlines Review urgent member concerns and refer time-sensitive matters to authorized stewards or representatives without delay.
WEEK 1 | Organize representation Coordinate with the Maintenance Craft Director; confirm current bylaws, steward coverage, committee authority, and volunteers.
WEEK 2 | Build the process Document the proposed committee charter, train volunteers, establish a secure intake log, and publish verified contact information.
WEEKS 2–3 | Review the evidence Request and evaluate relevant Line H/PS Form 4852 records, CTC and policing instructions, overtime lists, staffing records, and equipment concerns.
WEEK 4 | Report back Provide members a progress update showing issues reviewed, referrals made, management responses received, and remaining work.
HOW MEMBERS CAN HELP
Document the date, location, tour, instructions received, people involved, and any relevant schedules, pay records, or photographs. Share concerns privately with an authorized union representative. Volunteer to assist with outreach or training, and watch for the union’s official contact announcement.
IMPORTANT: Reporting a concern to a proposed committee does not itself initiate a grievance or extend contractual deadlines. Contact an authorized steward or union representative immediately when a deadline may be approaching. |
KNOW WHO TO CONTACT
We encourage every custodian to stay engaged, speak up, and report workplace concerns. Your first points of contact are Joe or Kim, who will help document your concerns and connect you with the appropriate union representative. If additional assistance or escalation is needed, contact Maintenance Craft Director James Chrestman, followed by Local 732 President Chris Walker. Whether your concern involves staffing, Line H, overtime, equipment, scheduling, or working conditions, your voice deserves to be heard. Together, through communication, documentation, and collective action, we can turn concerns into solutions.
Joe Malton — Custodial advocate and meeting organizer.
Kimberly Irving — Maintenance Craft representative.

STRONGER TOGETHER
Thank you to every member who attended, spoke up, listened, or volunteered. The measure of this meeting will be the actions that follow: documented concerns, clear ownership, timely referrals, and regular communication.
